History as the Skaran people know it...
The Golden Empire.
In the before time, the human race once ruled an empire that spanned the entire known world, alongside several other races. The empire had lasted for nearly three thousand years, and was a beacon of trade, knowledge and power. All where protected and humanity was lorded above all.
The Coming of the Ebon & The Great Betrayal.
The Ebon, a God of dark power arrived and turned the other races against the Humans. In a few months the humans went from the most respected, to the most feared and hated of the races in the empire. Humanity flickered like a flame in the darkness and was nearly extinguished forever. Those who where survived where rounded up and made slaves, forbidden to breed, and humanities destruction seemed assured.
The Uprising & The Arrival of Askan
A warrior from one the remote edge of the empire rose up and began a campaign against the forces of the empire, now united under the banner of the Ebon. He raised a small army, and began freeing slave camps of humans. Other uprisings saw his army swell, but even so Askan realised as brave and as strong as humanity was they where too weak to defeat the forces the Ebon had amassed.
The Great Exodus.
Askan lead the human race in the Great Exodus, leading them away from known lands in a journey that lasted nearly thirty years. Over this time others joined them, from his wife, the beautiful Elangtia to the wild rager Atenios, others fell by the wayside. Other God's helped humanity on their journey, and this was a period of legends and heroic deeds.
Landfall & The Creation of Storfald.
Eventually Askan lead the tired masses of humanity to the Isle, a place remote enough from the Ebon where they could rebuild and strengthen in preparation to reclaim what was once theirs. They created the marble city of Eastern Landings, Storfald and founded the Exodus Library to hold treasures saved from the ancient Golden Empire. In deference to their saviour the humans began calling themselves Skaran or followers of Askan.
The Leaving of the Gods & The Sea of Storms.
Ten years after arriving on the Isle, Askan and the others left to ascend from their mortal bodies, creating the Seven God's followed and worshiped to this day. As a result of their leaving they also created the Sea of Storms, a wall of churning impassable water to protect the Isle and it's inhabitants. Legend tells when the waves die down it will be time for humanity to return to the world they once fled.
The Formation of the Brethren & The First Domains
The Brethren order, a monastic order dedicated to keeping the truth of the history of the Seven and the Great Exodus gained power in Storfald, under their leadership they sent out parties to create other domains around the Isle. The first was Nordun, followed by Torslang, Milsun and various others.
The Schism & The High King
Some of the new domains rankled under remote leadership from the Brethren council. One by a name now no longer recorded was led by a High Lord known as Hereca. He spoke out against the Brethren rule as corrupt and not keeping with the true tenants of Askan. Telling his lies to others he led an army of three other allied domains to the very gates of Storfald demanding independent rule for each domain and the dismissal of the Brethren Order. Unknown to him, the Brethren Council escaped the siege, heading to the northern domain of Nordun, and prepared their rebuttal. Gathering domains loyal to the Brethren, the council appointed the first ever High King, elected by the Brethren Council to lead the armies of the Skaran people against these heathens. This war became known as the Schism.
The Battle of Five Thunders.
The Schism ended with the Battle of Five Thunders when the armies of five different domains, three under command of the blasphemous Hereca finally met in the open field of battle. At the end of it Hereca's forces were defeated, and it marked the beginning of the end of the Schism wars. One of the domains, Hereca's own paid a final price, being totally destroyed by the Brethren armies, it's very name stricken from the record books and maps. The survivors fled north into the inhospitable mountains, where it is said they where cursed by the Seven, and became the heathen Orcad.
The New Domains.
After the destruction of the heretic domains in the Schism Wars, the Brethren council saw the need for continued expansion and approved the creation of three more domains, the last of which, Falun was given licence for it's creation almost two hundred years ago. Why there have been no more domains created since is a matter for the Brethren council.
The Arrival of the Kuzud.
Recently vast metal lined vessels, enclosed have heralded the arrival of the Kuzud, a race who claims to have navigated the Sea of Storms. If this is a sign that the seas are abating some scholars are wondering if the ancient tales of humanities fortold return to the world lost is coming true, or if the ancient enemy has now found a weak spot to launch his attack to ensure the final and total destruction of the Skaran race.
